Chocolate Eggplant Spread

OBSESSED with this spread! So delicious with so many different possible add-ins and uses! 

1 eggplant (all-purpose: globe, white, fairy etc)

5-6 whole dates, pitted

2 cinnamon sticks

2 tbsp cacao powder 

¼ cup nuts of choice


  1. Soak dates in warm water
  2. Make several slits on each side of clean eggplant. Break cinnamon sticks into several pieces and insert completely into eggplant. Broil eggplant evenly on both sides until blackened and roasted. Let cool. 
  3. Remove cinnamon sticks from eggplant
  4. Food process eggplant flesh, soaked dates, cacao powder and nuts of choice until desired consistency is achieved. Ready to enjoy!! :)

Love, love, LOVEE this spread. It can be used warm or cold. Can be used as a filling, dip, spread, or even a healthier frosting for your favorite baked goods!

Experiment with different add-ins like different types of nuts, dried fruits, or even some nut butter! I used pistachios and a bit of a cardamom in the spread shown above with fresh homemade star bread. It was a hit!
